Modern Beatitudes

4.12 - 6.14.2026

The Gospels of Matthew and Luke contain the ancient teachings of Jesus, some of them in his sermon on the mount. Part of that was a section called “The Beatitudes,” an invitation to an upside-down version of the world than what actually existed. I am not sure if anyone took Jesus up on living this way, but he did promote it as the way to life that was lasting. Two-thousand years later, on their own these beatitudes are still challenging for followers of Jesus. However, we also know that the troubles of the world have expanded to areas people of Jesus’ day could not imagine. So, for this series, we will look at what might have made an expanded list, if Jesus were preaching and teaching today. I admit it is bold of me to suggest these might make His list but still, I hope you will journey with me through “Modern Beatitudes.”  ~ Rev. Dr. Jim Hoffman
