October 2017

It’s Already October…

and we are excited to have your child/children in our program!  All the teachers would like to thank you for your patience and cooperation during our first weeks of adjusting to our “new school.”  We are really enjoying getting to know your children and look forward to a wonderful year!

Halloween Party Time!

We will hold our Halloween Partiesfor the Toddler, Preschool, and Older Preschool rooms on Monday and Tuesday, October 30 and 31.  Sign-up sheets for bringing treats, drinks, paper goods, and take home favors are posted on the classroom doors. Costumes may be worn only in the Older Preschool room please.  Thank you.

Say Cheese!

School Pictures will be taken on Wednesday and Thursday, October 18 and 19. We are sorry that the studio cannot be here all four days, but economically, this is not possible for them. These two days seem to be best for accommodating the most families. If you attend Monday or Tuesday only, you may schedule a time to come in on either Wednesday or Thursday morning to have your child’s picture taken.  Details will be sent home.

Thank you for your Baby Grace Donations!

Many thanks to those of you who have donated items for the Baby Grace project. You are much appreciated! We will continue to accept donated items and can provide a receipt for a tax deduction.

Trunk or Treat at St John’s!

You are invited to St. John’s Trunk or Treat on Sunday, October 29, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. in the parking lot of St. John’s Church. This event will feature decorated car trunks, lots of free candy, games, fun fall snacks, and other activities. This is a free event open to the community! Please contact Allie Williams at allie@stjohnsumc.org for more information!

Scholastic Book Club Orders

The book club brochures are being sent home with your children this week. October 12 is the deadline for placing your order.  Please make sure your child’s name is on the order form and one check is made out to “Scholastic.”  Put in the manila envelope on Nancy’s office door. You may also order online using the information sent home with September’s brochures. To order online, go to www.scholastic.com/bookclubs and enter our activation code GQRQK.  If you miss the deadline, you can still place your order by calling or emailing me your orders. Thank you to those who placed orders in September! We receives free books for our rooms!

PDO Directories Are Here!

The PDO Directories are being sent home this week with your child.   Children are listed by class and day, with parents’ names in parenthesis following the child’s name. Please check for any changes or corrections and let me know, so that I may put these corrections in November’s newsletter.  I apologize for any mistakes! At the end of the Crib, Toddler, Preschool, and Older Preschool classrooms’ lists are Substitute lists. The children’s names, along with the mothers’ names in parenthesis, and phone numbers are listed.  Next to their names are listed days they are available to sub (M, T, W, TH).  You may always add your name to the Sub List found on the yellow sheet on the classroom door.    We are only taking subs who are currently enrolled in our program, as this is less stressful to the child subbing as well as the other children in the classroom.   If you call a sub, please be sure the parent subbing for you has your name.   The sub will make a check to you for the amount of $30.50 ($32 for the Crib room), leave it with me, and you may pick up your check from my office when your child next attends.

Please let Nancy know if you are interested in before and/or after school care, being offered on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings, 8:00-9:00 a.m., and Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday afternoons, 2:30-3:30 p.m. Cost is $6.75 per hour of care.

Classroom News . . .

In the Crib Room, we are adjusting to being away from our mommies and daddies and seem to be doing better each week. As we play in our own room, outside on our playground, and in our “gross motor” toy room downstairs, we are learning to play and share with others, as well as explore new toys. Singing, playing with musical instruments, and painting with dot paints are some of our favorite activities. We love all the riding and climbing toys downstairs, as well as going outside for walks in our big strollers and playing on the playground.  It is fun to see the changes and development of our Crib Room children throughout the year! Please bring a picture of your child if you have not sent one. We will keep it on our door throughout the school year. Your little ones love seeing these!  Please send a sippy/cup with lid each day and wash your child’s hands after bringing in the classroom.

In the Toddler Room, we have been getting acquainted with our room, our teachers, and our many new friends. Some of us are still trying to adjust being away from our mommies and daddies, but each week our adjustment gets better. In addition to talking about how special we are, we are talking about how special our new friends are and how we can help each other. We learned about the colors red, yellow, and blue through songs, stories, and art activities such as our “Helping Hands”, apple prints, school bus, and easel painting our “Go Chiefs!” and “Go Royals!” Color and shape concepts will continue to be emphasized throughout the school year. We enjoyed our nature walks and our musical instruments parade!  We are enjoying playing outside on these warm fall days.  Our large “gross motor” indoor playground downstairs has been lots of fun, too. Please bring a recent picture of your child if you have not yet sent one. We will keep this picture to use on our bulletin board throughout the year. The children love looking at these pictures of themselves and their friends!  Please send a sippy/cup with lid each day and wash your child’s hands after bringing in the classroom.

The Preschool Room has been doing all kinds of fun activities. We have been making new friends, getting acquainted with our teachers, talking about how special we are, and learning about the world around us. We are learning about shapes, colors, counting, our names, and our fall season through circle time, stories, songs, and art activities. We enjoyed “The Kissing Hand” book and making our own handprint. Yarn painting leaves, making our “arm and hand” tree and finger print leaves were fun fall crafts! We will continue reviewing many concepts through different activities.    We have learned about the letters A, B, C, and D this past month. Please check our door for our weekly lesson plans. We are also enjoying playing outside as well as in our large “gross motor” indoor playground downstairs.  Please send a picture of your child, if you have not sent one, as it will be used for our bulletin board throughout the year. The children love looking at these pictures of themselves and their friends! Please send a sippy cup/cup with lid with your child each day and wash his/her hands after bringing in the classroom.

The Older Preschool Room upstairs has been busy with lots of activities. While making new friends, we have had fun playing and learning all about ourselves, our names, our birthdays, the letters A, B, C, D, and E, the  numbers 1 and 2, the colors red and green, circle shapes, community helpers, dinosaurs, how apple trees grow, and indoor and outdoor safety. We love decorating our room with some of our projects! Please look at our “Apple Book” we made for our room. We will be working on learning our addresses and phone numbers. We enjoy learning new songs and acting out the words!  We also are enjoying playing outside as well as in our large “gross motor” indoor playground downstairs.  Please send a picture we can keep throughout the school year for our bulletin board ifyou have not done so.  Please make sure to look on our classroom door for our weekly lessons, weekly show and tell, monthly curriculum, and additional information.

Our Chapel Theme forSeptember for the Preschool and Older Preschool rooms was “God Made Us and Loves Us!”

Program Reminders . . .

• Please do not bring your child before 9:00 a.m., unless you are signed up for early drop-off. The teachers cannot be responsible for children before 9:00,   as they need time to prepare their classrooms so they can devote their attention to your children after 9:00.

• As difficult as it seems, please drop your child off and leave as quickly as possible.  Children whose parents stay tend to have a more difficult time when parents leave. We appreciate your cooperation in helping your little ones have a happy day here.

• Please make sure that you have completed the sheet on the classroom door. In case of emergency, this is the first place the teachers will look in order to reach you.If you will be at a different number than is on this sheet, please write this on the sheet and let the teachers know.

• Please remember to pick up your child’s art work in his/her tote tray. These little projects are important to your child, as your child learns by doing the project and takes pride in what he/she has created. We encourage that you talk to your child about his/her day and activities.

• As we are entering our cooler, fall days,  please label all outerwear your child brings and other belongings. This is helpful, especially if items are left here.

• Monthly tuition is due the 15th of each month. Tuition is $122($128 Crib Room) for one day a week and $244($256 Crib Room) for two days a week. You will be receiving monthly invoices to keep you updated on your tuition payments. Before and after care payments for September will be emailed in a separate invoice the first week of October.  Please let Nancy know if you have any questions on your current balance.   Please place your checks in the apple mug on Nancy’s desk.

• If you have not paid your $25.00 ($30 for Older Preschool Room) per child supply fee, please add this to your October tuition check or write a separate check.  Thank you!
