It’s Already November…

It is hard to believe that your children have already been here over two months! We appreciate all our cooperative and wonderful parents who have been patient and understanding during these adjusting times of separation.  Your children have adjusted well!  It is so exciting for us to see these little ones excited to be here! We are thoroughly enjoying them and the progress they have made since their first day.

Baby Grace Donations Needed

St. John’s Baby Grace Ministry is in need of children’s out-grown or new warm winter clothing sizes 12 months to 5 Toddler. Any childcare items and toys, plus disposable diapers in sizes 4, 5 and 6 would be greatly appreciated also.  Items may be placed in the playpen at the top of the stairs. A donation receipt for tax purposes may be found in the pocket attached to this playpen. Even though St. John’s is asking for donations by this week, donations are always welcomed anytime! Your help and generosity is greatly appreciated in helping those families less fortunate. Please see Nancy if you have questions. Thank you for supporting this ministry to help others!

Small Cartons Needed!

2017-2018 PDO Directories

The PDO Directories were sent home last month.  Each family should have received a directory. Please let me know if you did not receive one or if there are any corrections to this directory.  (So sorry for any mistakes!)

Please Note The Following Policy:

It is St. John’s policy to NOT follow up on your child’s attendance. We would appreciate your making every effort to inform us if your child is to be absent. Thank you.

Say Cheese…School Pictures!

Your child’s proofs should be arriving this week. Please follow the instructions on the package.  If any of you missed getting your child’s picture taken, please see Nancy for contacting the photographer to schedule having your child’s picture taken at another location.

School Closing Policy:

If the Kansas City Missouri AND the Shawnee Mission School Districts are closed because of inclement weather, we will also be closed.  This applies to both districts dismissing early because of bad weather. Therefore, if one of the districts remains open, we will remain open. We do not list “St. John’s PDO” on the news or call you about closings, so please listen to your local radio or TV station for the district school closings or early dismissals. In a rare case that one or both of the districts are not in session due to a federal holiday, teacher conferences, meetings, etc, during inclement weather, these districts will not be posted on the news. Only in this situation, you will be emailed or called about our school being closed.

Classroom News

Crib Room:

We have adjusted to being away from our mommies and daddies. We are feeling more comfortable and secure with our “PDO Mommies” (our teachers) and we are making new friends. We are dancing to music, learning finger plays and songs, (“The Wheels on the Bus” is a favorite!), building lots with our different types of connecting building toys, and reading stories. We are enjoying our two four-seater buggies for traveling to the playground and for going on walks on these nice fall days. What fun these are! We love going downstairs to our big gross motor room when we can’t go outside.

 Toddler Room:

We are having lots of fun with our friends and playing in our different play centers, as well as playing downstairs and outside. We continue to work on following directions, listening, helping, and being kind to our friends. We learned about fire safety and how to “stop, drop, and roll”. We have enjoyed listening to fall and Halloween stories, playing circle games, and singing new songs. “Five Little Pumpkins”, and “Itsy, Bitsy Spider”, ’The Fire Truck Song” “Open Shut Them”, and “ABC” are some of our favorites! We had fun painting leaves with fall colors, painting bats and pumpkins, and making our handprint spiders. We enjoyed our Halloween parties! Many thanks to all the parents who brought treats and goodies to this: Your children enjoyed sharing these with their friends and your help was much appreciated!

Preschool Room:

We have made many friends and have enjoyed playing in the different play centers, as well as downstairs and outside. We continue to work on listening skills, following directions, classroom rules, and sharing and cooperating with our friends.  We’ve been learning about fall colors, shapes, numbers, our fall season and Halloween through activities and nature walks. We learned all about fire safety and practiced “stop, drop, and roll”. We have had fun playing games and listening to stories (We liked “Big Green Monster“!). We love singing songs and doing finger plays. ”Five Little Pumpkins”, “One Little, Two Little, Three Little Witches”, “GobIins in the Dark”, and “The Fire Truck Song” are our favorites! We are working on recognizing our names and our letters this past month were E. F, G. and, H.  Many thanks to all the parents who brought treats and goodies to our Halloween parties. The children were excited sharing these and your help was much appreciated!

Older Preschool Room:

What fun we had learning about our five senses through different activities each week! We learned about the colors orange and black, square shapes, the number 3 and the letters E, F, G, and H. We also learned a lot about fire safety, dialing 911, and practiced “stop, drop, and roll”. We really enjoyed decorating our room and hall bulletin board for Halloween, painting real pumpkins, and doing other Halloween projects and activities. Many thanks to the following children’s parents for providing treats and goodies for our Halloween parties: Charlotte Bloch, Mae Clarkson, Kingsley DeGreeff, Graham Everist, Malcolm Flanagan, Thomas Langford, Patrick McCoy, Ellie Schmidt,  and Bryn Williams. The children enjoyed sharing these and your help was much appreciated

The Preschool and Older Preschool rooms attend chapel once a month. October’s theme was “God Made Our World”.

Christmas Program!

The Preschool and Older Preschool Rooms will have a short Christmas Program at 2:10 p.m. in the church sanctuary on Wednesday and Thursday, December 6 and 7. All parents, grandparents, relatives, and friends are invited!  Invitations will be sent home next week.

Many thanks to the Kansas City Fire Department for an informative and fun “on sight” field trip!  Our children really enjoyed the firemen and fire truck’s visit! We learned a lot about fire safety. Even though some of our little ones were at first a little afraid of the “masked” fireman in all his protective gear, our goal was to help them understand that this fireman is our friend and helper in case of fire.  In a fire emergency, children will tend to run away and hide from a masked fireman, which can lead to a tragedy.  We hope that their visit and talk to our children will help avoid this.

Program Reminders. . .

♥ Our monthly tuition is $122 ($126 in Crib Room) per child if attending one day per week and $244 ($252 in Crib Room) per child for two days per week. Tuition is the same amount each month.

♥ Please add your $25 ($30 for Older Preschool) supply fee to your tuition if you have not paid this.

♥ For health reasons and out of consideration for your child’s classmates and teachers, please do not send your child if he/she is not feeling well. To keep the risk of viruses down, please remember to wash your children’s hands after they arrive here.

♥ Please send your child’s picture for our bulletin board if you have not. The children love looking at these! This is very important to your child. Thanks!

♥ Please try to arrive at 9:00 or soon after and  be prompt in picking up. Arriving late and picking up late can be upsetting to your child. Lateness in picking up will be assessed the after school care cost.

♥ Please label ALL coats, hats, and gloves.

♥ If your child is in pull ups, please bring pull ups with VELCRO closures.

♥ Please send a drink cup with a “sippy” lid with your child in the Crib, Toddler, and Preschool rooms
