Called Special Church Conference
Sun, Feb 2nd 12pm - 12:30pm
Sanctuary

Your leadership board and the chair of the Board of Trustees have been in conversation regarding the St. John’s United Methodist Church 2008 Trust Agreement. In short, this agreement stipulates how the church handles all undesignated gifts given through trusts, wills, estates or bequests. 16 years ago, the goal was to build up the general endowment of the church and we have done so. The current value of our endowment is just over $1.1 million dollars. We thank God for this. Now, we find ourselves in a new era of the church where we need to balance the short-term, intermediate, and long-term health of the church. As such, your leaders feel it is time to amend the trust agreement however, this requires a 2/3 vote of church members to approve. Our District Superintendent, Rev. Robin Roderick Bell, has approved the called church conference and will preside over it. Per the 2016 United Methodist Book of Discipline, the charge/church conference is being called to deal with this issue and this issue alone. The resolution to amend the trust agreement will be the only order of business. Finally, in accordance with para. 246.8 of the 2016 United Methodist Book of Discipline, this announcement serves as one of the two required notifications of this called special church conference.
